Tacos El Venado

Mร‰XICO ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ

The Tacos El Venado empire continues to expand across The Valley and beyond, now with three stands in addition to the truck that is found on Sepulveda in Van Nuys. The original stand (shown here) still is active and crowded on Victory in North Hollywood, with two other locations in Sylmar and now Highland Park. Those hoping for deer (venado) tacos might be disappointed, but the rest of us certainly will not.

The large vat of simmering parts available for tacos (11 total options) always looks so tempting, but anytime I find myself at the stand the trompo is too hard to turn down. Their tacos al pastor ($1.25, below) are just too tasty. The trick is to come very hungry, instead of stopping by after eating elsewhere in The Valley, something I can never quite accomplish.

In addition to the two regular tacos, one of those in there is that old California tradition of a quesotaco ($2), as especially al pastor pork and pineapple just mixes so well with cheese.

The tromperos at all their locations are class acts and the rotating spit of meat is always well taken care of. Tacos are always juicy and perfect. A full table of condiments provides everything necessary to finish them off however you please. On the last visit, I had the distinct pleasure of watch the desmadre burrito (not shown) being made, a ridiculous folded brick of every meat on offer put together. Now I want one.
