If you come into this industrial area in a little coupe or maybe a hatchback, it takes a bit of courage to find your way amongst the 18-wheelers entering and exiting each lot and safely get to the destination. But the smoke signals being sent up by their charcoal grill are definitely worth following, because they emanate from a place cooking up good cuts of bistec and cecina.

This location used to be home to a similar operation called Tacos Al Carbon, but in 2020 there was some kind of change and/or rebrand and thus was born Tacos Veinte-Veinte. The quality and care of everything seems to have remained at the same level, and the friendly young men that run the stand always seem happy to make sure your tacos are just right.

No matter which of the two orders you choose, your tacos look very simple when they are handed to you, a tortilla with one thin cut of meat on it. It is up to you to dress it up as desired, and they have all the options you could ever want. What seems like a simple operation starts to get much more complex the more you look as three or four homemade salsas are around, a pot of black beans is available for customers as well as some grilled onions in addition to the diced cebolla y cilantro.

The meats are grilled to order, and the tortillas are tossed on the grill to be toasted. These must come from a good local tortillerรญa because they are full of flavor and complement the smoky meats well. Tacos de bistec ($4, below) and the tortillas themselves are larger than the standard size at stands and trucks around town. A person that usually orders 3-4 tacos can probably get away with two here, especially with a scoop of the black beans.

Tacos de cecina ($4, above and below) are just as big and just as delicious, the salty cured beef grilled for just a bit to add the smokiness from the charcoal. Add $1.50 if you would like to make any of your tacos into a quesataco. Mulitas are $7.50, and using these big tortillas and plenty of cheese are definitely a full meal by themselves.

Their salsa macha is spicier and nuttier than usual, with peanuts and sunflower seeds and plenty of dried chili. Use it effectively in combination with the bright salsa verde on your tacos. The orange habanero salsa pairs well with the black beans if you want to eat those on the side. Tacos 20/20 is not a flashy place, but those that prefer simple and satisfying will be in for a very flavorful treat.
