Despite its German name, Biergarten in Koreatown is a Korean sports bar through and through, packing up for the Dodgers and any other big games around town. During the 2018 World Cup, it also became known as ground zero for supporters of the Taegeuk Warriors who wanted beers in their hands to deal with stress rather than the dry outdoor events (also fantastic) put on by Radio Korea.

As with many of the events attended to this point, some local news showed up for some B-roll and turned on their bright lights to annoy patrons who came for pre-dawn football. A special menu was devised with pre-packaged foods that could be easily warmed up without the help of the kitchen staff. These were nothing special, but enough to fuel the people passionate enough to leave home in the dark to cheer on their team. Big thanks to any business willing to make arrangements to make it all happen.

The first half was the perfect storm of everything this crowd was dreading, two goals by an inspired Ghana team put South Korea with their backs against the wall. Thankfully after everyone had a smoke, and a round of beers was ordered after 06:00, South Korea struck back fast in the second half and leveled the score 2:2.

The fans at Biergarten were jumping from their seats and the vultures from local news got their treasured shots. Game on. The Ghanaian fans on TV suddenly weren't dancing and had concerned looks on their faces, which gave life to their opponents.

With Korean fans in the stadium in full voice, the fans at Biergarten join into the cheers they know, clapping and yelling. Just as the noise reaches its climax, Ghana stuns those here and in Qatar and gets their third goal, the eventual match winner. The only consolation is for fans that use the men's bathroom, which features the little ball and goal urinal mat, always great fun even when your team disappoints.

The loss leaves South Korea in a spot where they do not control their own destiny. They will need to beat group leaders Portugal in their last match and hope for help in the Uruguay-Ghana game. Anything is still possible, but without the ability to win the group, the second place teams are only fighting for a chance to face Brazil in the round of 16.
