At a time of day this nightclub is usually dormant, having closed a few hours earlier late at night, Station 1640 has come to life for morning parties celebrating the Seleção Canarinho. As the doors opened at 07:00, the stars on the sidewalk here in the heart of Hollywood were being pressure washed and all the puke and grime from the previous night came to light as the sun came up.

Their first match against Serbia on Thanksgiving was later in the morning and a fully packed affair, taking advantage of the holiday. While free, these events required tickets, although for the second match they were not expecting as many and guests were allowed in regardless (after a proper nightclub pat down, of course). The floors were still sticky from the night before, but the Brazilian staff all seemed pumped to be there no matter what the time.

After a very sleepy first half, Station 1640 turns into a Brazilian night club right at the halftime whistle, the disco lights are turned on, and the volume is turned up. This happens to be when most of the patrons actually turn up, the young see-and-be-seen Brazilian crowd are definitely proponents of being fashionably late.

To be fair, after two matches earlier that were absolute bangers, it was nice for the music to breathe a little life into the club. In the second half a Vini Jr. goal is disallowed but not before the energy of the group was lifted, and eventually in the 83rd minute a really pleasant Casemiro strike ended up being the match winner.

That wonderful 1970-born radio sound with lasers and "Brasil!" was played on each goal, even the one disallowed, always pleasant to hear unless they are playing your team. When the match ended, most of the Brazilians stuck around for some live music that entertained the crowd until the start of the next match between Portugal and Uruguay, which some hung around to watch.

All the various event spaces that are opening for unique parties during the World Cup, not just your regular sports bars, make Los Angeles such a special place to watch with the nations that are involved. Brazil should be going deep into the tournament, so there will be plenty more if you want to catch a match with them.
